The Web is one flat
page, the top of an
infinite pile of infinitely
thin flash cards,
some of which can
do tricks. It's everywhere
at once, mutating
faster than it can
make sense. It is
designed to be the
opposite of Red Square.
Red Square
is secular, International,
Ideological, Obscene,
a huge geometric place
that can't move, a
dizzying canyon between
promise and practice.
Red
Square combines the
catholic world-standardization
of printed text with
the radical erasures
of modernism (e.g.,
the final abandonment
of any notion of proportion
as balance). With
luck, the Temple Mount
will come to resemble
Red Square in new
ways.
